Weatherization Measures Do's and Don'ts
DO'S
Weatherization measures on a home could include any or all of the following:
- Insulation in the attic space, under the home and/or the sidewalls
- Air sealing throughout the home
- Seal and insulate duct work
- Weather strip and/or caulk around windows and doors
- Install smoke alarms and CO detectors
- Vent and/or wrap hot water heater and pipes
- Vent dryer
- Install energy-saving light bulbs
- Check readings on appliances
DON'TS
Weatherization does not include the following:
- Repair or replace roofs
- Replace all windows
- Structural repair (ex: weak floors, ceiling damage, plumbing hazards, mold, electrical hazards)
- Build ramps, decks, porches or steps
- Under-pen manufactured homes
